How to Prepare Your Home for Interior Painting

Most of our interior painting work happens in homes where families are still living. A little preparation on your end helps the job move quickly. Here is a simple checklist.
Before the crew arrives
Clear small items. Put away decor, electronics, lamps and anything fragile from the rooms being painted.
Take down wall hangings. Remove pictures, mirrors, shelves and TVs if you can. Leave the hardware if you plan to rehang in the same spot and tell the crew.
Move what you can. Slide smaller furniture out of the room or to the center. Large pieces can stay and will be covered.
Empty closets if closets are part of the scope.
Plan for pets. Keep pets in a separate room or out of the house during work hours.
Confirm colors for each room so there are no questions on day one.
What the painting crew handles
Covering floors and furniture
Removing switch plates and outlet covers
Patching nail holes and minor dings, sanding and caulking
Masking trim, fixtures and hardware
Priming patches and stains where needed
Putting covers back and walking the rooms with you at the end
Living in the house during the job
We work room by room so you can keep using the rest of the house, and we leave finished rooms ready to use. Low-odor products make it easier to stay home during the work. Let us know about schedules, like kids' bedtimes or work-from-home calls, and we will plan around them.
Not sure which finish to use where? See our room-by-room sheen guide.
