When Is the Best Time to Paint a House Exterior in Tampa Bay?

Unlike colder parts of the country, Tampa Bay does not have a winter shutdown for exterior painting. Work can happen most of the year. What changes from season to season is how the work is scheduled day to day.
The rainy season
Summer brings heat, humidity and afternoon thunderstorms that often roll in on a predictable schedule. Exterior painting still happens all summer, but crews start early, watch the radar and plan which walls to paint so fresh paint has time to set before the afternoon rain. A few weather days are normal.
Dew and humidity
Paint needs a dry surface. On humid mornings, walls can be wet with dew even when it is not raining. Every paint product lists the temperature and humidity conditions it needs on its label, and a good crew follows them rather than rushing.
Fall through spring
Many homeowners prefer to schedule exterior work between fall and spring, when there is less rain and lower humidity. It is a popular window, so booking ahead helps. That said, a well-run summer job turns out just as well.
Hurricane season
Hurricane season runs from June through November. If you are planning a repaint, it can make sense to seal cracks and refresh caulk before peak storm season, since those are the points where wind-driven rain gets in.
Our advice
The best time to paint is when your home needs it. Waiting through another season of peeling or open cracks usually means more repair work later. If you are not sure, read how often to repaint in Florida or ask us to take a look at your exterior.
